Ethics in Chemical Dependency Counseling                                                               6 Hours

  • This is an interactive workshop exploring the Ohio Chemically Dependency Board’s Code of Ethics (or NAADACs Code of Ethics for states outside of Ohio) for Chemical Dependency Counselors. By offering opportunities to think through and discuss ethical scenarios in small groups, participants will be able to examine their responses to an ethical dilemma in a classroom setting, measuring their own adherence to the Code of Ethics

Foundations & Effects of Addiction 101—Narcotics, Sedatives, Stimulants, Psychedelics and Hallucinogens    6 Hours

  • This workshop provides a review of narcotics, sedatives, stimulants, psychedelics and hallucinogens by examining each as a class of drugs, as well as highlighting specific substances within each category, including: barbiturates, tranquilizers, and alcohol; opium, codeine, morphine, and heroin; caffeine, nicotine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, and cocaine; and mescaline, psilocybin, LSD, and the designer drug MDMA.

Foundations & Effects of Addiction 102—Inhalants, THC, PCP & Ketamine, and Steroids                   6 Hours

  • This workshop reviews inhalants and details its constituent parts: solvents and aerosols, nitrites, and nitrous oxide; offers a summary of the cannabinoid THC and examines marijuana, hashish, and hash oil; describes PCP and evaluates phencyclidine and the veterinary anesthetic Ketamine. Additionally, we’ll examine the use and abuse of anabolic steroids and GHB, a steroid-like substance and date-rape drug.

Group Skills for Addiction Counselors (two day workshop) *                           12 Hours

  • This two-day seminar is designed to aid professionals in selecting, facilitating and terminating various types of chemical dependency groups with special emphasis on group treatment issues and basic skills. The training will be experiential in nature and will include the following topics: Group dynamics, stages and types of group skills in the areas of process, content, and interventions and also group building skills. The goal of this workshop is to raise an awareness of how attitude affects participation in a group.

Methamphetamine: Knowledge, Prevention & Treatment                                           6 Hours

  • Using video, small group exercises, and evidence-based resources, this training is designed to aid professionals in familiarization with methamphetamine. This seminar will help the participant to understand the physical, psychological, and societal issues of methamphetamine while reviewing prevention and treatment issues.

Presenter:

Brad Wise, MA., LICDC, is a program director for a corrections-based chemical dependency treatment program. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science from Grace College and a Master of Arts in Education/Counseling from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He has been providing training for chemical dependency counselors and prevention professionals with Wise Communications since 1995.
